Brand facelift for Print + Web

During the summer of 2014, my wife miraculously found two online job postings in Fiji, one was "Graphic Designer needed for Boutique Resort" and the other for a "home school teacher". We both applied, and both received responses. A few emails in, we realized that the postings were both coming from the same place, a couple who owned a resort and had two kids. Our future employers then realized that these two new applicants were a couple and one was already a Fiji citizen. Fate had it, and in no time, it was a done deal; we set off to Fiji for a 6 month contract. 

The resort needed a design facelift and an updated portfolio. During my the time there, I led the branding for two subsidiary companies- a beach resort and a boat tour operation. The design schedule included regularly updating the resort's social media sites and blogs with stories, photos and promotional pieces, sending out monthly email blasts, redesigning presentations, and designing staff holiday apparel. I also got the chance to work with the engineering department to create 3D mock ups of structural designs to be sent to the metal fabricators on the main land. It was certainly an unforgettable experience. The Dive Shop also needed some new dive wear, shown below were the ones that made round 1. 

MAP MAKING 

I took on the task of making maps for the resort accommodations, as well as for dive sites and nearby attractions. This was a fun challenge, as there was not much to work from. I set out with my tape measure, printed topographic maps, and my sketchbooks to do the groundwork needed before I could create the maps below. I enjoyed sharing early versions with local dive masters and resort guests so that they could let me know if any of their favorite locations were not pictured. The results were clean, clear and comprehensive. 

TAVEUNI TRAVEL & TOURS

Branding for Print

Taveuni Travel & Tours is the subsidiary company created to accommodate the resort's new ocean vessel, the Taveuni Explorer.  I incorporated into the design two species native to Taveuni- the musk parrot and the red and white Tagimoucia (tahng-ee-mow-theea) flower. The Tagimoucia is only found on the island of Taveuni, and it holds a special place in local legend.

Branding Print + Web

Paradise Beach Resort was the second company that I branded for the resort. With the intention of representing the parent company, I used the coconut tree from the original logo, modified it and made it more graphical.
